Bruce Terrace Flood Project Work Continues On

Gas main moved while orders placed for Emory Road park equipment.

The summer work in the Village of Mineola continues to progress as superintendent of public works Tom Rini reported the latest during the July 10 meeting of the village board at the village hall.

In June the village experienced an issue with the gas main while relocating lines on Dow Avenue between Pilgrim Street and Sheridan Boulevard which Rini said was now resolved.

According to Rini the entire block was affected by gas main.

“In order to fit the main in it had to be moved and directional drilled underneath the sidewalk area, which then necessitates each house having to open up in the sidewalk area to get down to the service, get down to the main, make a connection; the long service connections which go across the street were done in the street,” he said.

As of July 10 the village has completed the move of the gas main and reconnection of all the homes on Dow Avenue.

Pratt Brothers, the county contractor for the Sheridan Boulevard interceptor, is on site and is drilling several “test holes.”

During the week of July 14 Rini stated that he anticipates pipe being delivered for the next portion of the project.

Several sidewalks in the area have also been patched with asphalt, but Rini said that those sections would be completely redone. Mayor Scott Strauss said that residents were notified by himself who delivered letters personally.

“They’re all aware of the situation and we’re moving full steam ahead with that entire project,” he said. “There’s going to be some activity in the coming weeks in that area so please use caution as you’re driving through it.”

Regarding the improvements being made to the Emory Road Park, Rini stated that purchase orders have been issued and “it’s just a matter of waiting on delivery,” on the equipment, which he said said would be done this week. Another purchase order was put out for brickwork in the park as well.
