Bruce Terrace Project Three-Quarters Completed

Village of Mineola waiting on county to finish its third of work to make piping connection.

Three of the four phases of the Bruce Terrace flood mitigation project have been completed as of September 4 according to a report given that night by superintendent of public works Tom Rini during a regular meeting of the village board at the village hall.

The village had finished work on Dow Avenue between Pilgrim Street and Sheridan Boulevard as well as Bruce Terrace and Liberty Avenue portions of the project. The final phase is the completion of bifurcated recharge basin.

The portion of the project being overseen by Nassau County suffered several delays but the county’s contractor is currently working with most piping installed.

Rini reported that that day crews installed a manhole at the intersection of Westbury Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.

“A few more weeks and hopefully this will be done completely,” he said, noting that they are waiting for the county portion to finish in order to make a connection to Dow Avenue and into the recharge basin.

“I’d like to thank the residents in the area on Sheridan Boulevard for bearing with us and their patience and understanding are going a long way,” Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss said. “They’ve lived in a very uncomfortable situation for way too long a period and hopefully we can get it rectified with the county and the contractors.”
