Bio: Martins was first elected as a New York State Senator after a close 2010 election against Sen. Craig Johnson. He is the former mayor of Mineola, where he has been a lifelong resident. Martins was first elected as Mayor of the village in 2003 during a time when Mineola was on the verge of bankruptcy, suffering from a shrinking tax base and facing a half-million dollar operating deficit.
In 2006, he was appointed to the Finance Policy Committee of the New York State Conference of Mayors’ (NYCOM) Legislative Committee, which drafts and reviews proposed statewide legislation affecting New York’s cities and villages. Since 2007, Jack has served on NYCOM's Executive Committee as well as the Executive Committee for the Nassau County Village Officials Association. He currently chairs the senate committee on local government.
Martins currently lives in Mineola with his wife and four daughters.
Education: A graduate of Chaminade High School, Martins holds degrees from American University and St. John’s University School of Law.
