Seat belts and car safety restraints can save lives. While on the road, it is necessary to ensure that your child is secure in a car seat to maximize safety. Under New York State’s Occupant Restraint Law, all children under the age of 8 are required to have a child safety restraint system. It can be a child safety seat, a harness, a vest or a booster seat attached with the vehicle seat belt or latch system, but not the vehicle seat belt alone.
It is imperative that the child safety car seat be installed correctly. In order to ensure that the child safety’s car seat is properly installed, Senator Jack M. Martins is sponsoring a child car seat safety day on Saturday, September 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at Wilson Park in Mineola, 135 Union Street (the Mineola pool parking lot opposite the football field).
There will be certified car seat technicians on hand to make certain your child’s car seat is safely and properly secured free of charge.

“Every parent knows installing a car seat can be difficult. I felt it was important to take some time out to make certain it is properly installed. Everyone is invited to come down and have their seat checked,” said Senator Martins.
