DA Rice & The L.I. Youth Safety Coalition to Present Internet Safety and Bullying Prevention Conference

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice and the L.I. Youth Safety Coalition are pleased to announce a training forum and conference on Internet Safety and Bullying Prevention aimed at empowering youth service organizations, schools, and community partnerships to help youth lead safe and healthy lives.

The keynote speaker at the conference will be John Halligan, father of Ryan Patrick Halligan, a Vermont middle school student who committed suicide in 2003 after being the victim of both school and cyber bullying.

This training forum and conference will focus on the current challenges posed by the internet, social media, and bullying, with the goal of equipping youth serving organizations, professionals, and community leaders with the best resources available to meet these challenges.

District Attorney Rice formed the Coalition in 2009 in response to the dangers facing teenagers. The island-wide organization is comprised of local school districts, youth groups, substance abuse treatment organizations and law enforcement agencies dedicated to keeping Long Island's youth safe from destructive decision-making.  The coalition offers periodic island-wide forums on critical topics and provides a forum for discussions and information exchange through the LI Youth Safety Listserv.

To register for the conference, contact Rene Fiechter at 516-571-1090; email rene.fiechter@nassauda.org or visit http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/da/documents/YouthSafety.pdf and download the form.
