Ferrara Sworn in to Fourth Term in North Hempstead

Angelo Ferrera now the only male member of the North Hempstead Town Board.

Now supplying the only dose of testosterone to the female-dominated North Hempstead town board, longtime GOP town councilman Angelo Ferrara was officially sworn in to his fourth term Sunday.

With family members standing close by, the New Hyde Park Republican received the oath of office from state Sen. Jack Martins (R-Mineola).

"As a person who has given literally decades of his life to public service it is my privilege to swear him in today," said Martins.

In his acceptance speech at Clinton G. Martin Park, Ferrara challenged residents to continue to hold elected officials accountable.

"We have to stay the course and make sure that we represent you," said Ferrara.

Receiving nearly 63 percent of the vote, Ferrara defeated Democrat Sidhartha Nathan in November.

"I honestly enjoy this job and helping people," said Ferrara. "Hopefully enough of you recognize it because you keep retuning me to office."

Ferrara congratulated all newly-elected officials and thanked former Supervisor Jon Kaiman for his commitment to the town during the last 10 years. He vowed to work as closely with the new administration, if not more than he did with Kaiman, to make sure the former supervisor's legacy is continued.

With the election of Bosworth and two other females in North Hempstead, coupled with the resignation of North Hempstead Councilman Thomas K. Dwyer in November, Ferrara remains as the only male member of the town board.

The town board may appoint a replacement to Dwyer in 2014.
