Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman has announced he will not seek re-election — but another Great Neck lawmaker is poised to possibly take his place.

Nassau County Legis. Judi Bosworth, D-Great Neck, confirmed Thursday she will seek the town supervisor position and Legis. Wayne Wink, D-Roslyn, will run for town clerk.

Kaiman's decision not to run was solidified Thursday evening, according to Bosworth. Seeking a position he previously held for four years, Kaiman, 50, who resides in Great Neck, will run for district court judge.

Bosworth, 65, said she has been thinking about running for supervisor for about one year following talk that Kaiman might be moving on. Kaiman was mentioned as a candidate for positions at the Long Island Power Authority and for Nassau County executive.

"I'm really honored that I have the confidence and support of Jon as well as my party to run for this office," said Bosworth.

Bosworth said her 16 years on Great Neck school board and the six years with the county will help with the transition from her current legislative position to "more of an executive position" with the town.

"I think it's a nice combination of the two that will allow me to do this thing successfully," said Bosworth.

Regarding the Republican supervisor candidate Dina De Giorgio, Bosworth said "I look forward to giving the Town of North Hempstead residents the opportunity to compare my record with hers."

De Giorgio told Newsday, she is the better candidate. "Judi has absolutely no experience in town government. She's not a lawyer."

Bosworth said she will "hit the ground running" with her campaign efforts. She is scheduled to appear in Great Neck with Nassau County Executive  candidate Tom Suozzi on Friday.
