Major Work on Bruce Terrace Flood Project Completed

Nassau County crews finish third of project connecting all pipe sections for recharge basins.

The Bruce Terrace flood mitigation project is essentially completed according to Village of Mineola officials.

During the regular meeting of the village board on Sept. 18 at the village hall, superintendent of public works Tom Rini reported that crews had finished all crossings through Westbury Avenue that day as part of the county’s third of the project.

Meanwhile, Dow Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard required “tricky work getting through the water mains and the sewer mains,” Rini said. “We knew throughout this project that there could be issues with things like that when we were crossing them, our water mains and our sewer mains.”

The previous week county contractors completed the crossing at Dow Avenue as well as a replaced section of pipe as previously reported.

Nassau County contractors also finished laying all of their piping, connecting all sections, but now will have to go back and complete trench and road repair under a separate county contract that will result in the totally resurfacing of Sheridan Boulevard,

Rini reported that the only tasks left is to make and shape the two separate basins for flood recharging.

“For the most part, the project is done,” he said.
