Mayor's Message: Firefighter of the Year, Fireworks and Movie Night in the Park

Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss congratulates the Class of 2013.

The following are the opening remarks of Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss made during the public meeting of the Mineola Village Board on June 19, 2013:

I had the opportunity to swear in the officer of the Mineola Leisure Club. I want to wish Mike Conliglio and his team the very best in the coming year.

Troop 45’s pancake breakfast, which is held every year on Father’s Day – it was again this year – was a huge success. It was a great event not only as a fundraiser but also as a great time to sit down with our neighbors and enjoy the morning.

Mineola High School has its graduation ceremony this coming weekend. I’d like to congratulate the entire senior class of 2013, regardless of what high school they go to, they attend. I wish them the very best of luck and I hope that they enjoy the next steps in their lives.

On Friday, July 5 we’ll be sponsoring the Nassau Pops at Memorial Park. Following the concert will be a fireworks display. Please come down with your chairs, blankets, friends and neighbors and enjoy the evening and fireworks display as well as the concert and help us celebrate the birth of our country.

July 19 in conjunction with the chamber of commerce we’ll be hosting the Mineola Movie Night in the Park. It was a great event last year and I hope this year the weather cooperates and we have another great successful evening. Again, it will be held July 19, Friday evening at Wilson Field.

Lastly I want to congratulate Mineola firefighter and ex-Captain Chris Franz on being recognized as their firefighter of the year. It’s an award that’s greatly deserved by Chris; not only Chris but the entire Franz family is extremely active in the Village of Mineola here and I congratulate him on this award.
