Mineola Board Certifies 2013 Election Results

Durham, Walsh to be installed on April 1.

The Mineola Village Board held a brief public session Wednesday night at the village hall to certify the results of the 2013 village election.

While Mayor Scott Strauss ran uncontested for another term on the village board, there was a three-way race between New Line Party members George Durham and newcomer Dennis Walsh and incumbent Lawrence Werther who ran as an independent candidate after being dropped from the New Line ticket.

There were 1,183 total votes cast on the machines as well as 24 absentee ballots either mailed or delivered to the village hall.

The certified, total results for the election are as follows:

Candidate Party Votes Mayor Scott Strauss New Line Party 1,017 Trustees Dennis Walsh New Line Party 858 George Durham New Line Party 836 Lawrence Werther Mineola My Home Party 463

Werther made the motion to certify the results, which was passed unanimously and without discussion.

The village will hold its annual organizational night on April 1 at 7 p.m. at the community center.

The tentative 2013-14 village budget was submitted to the clerk’s office on March 20. The public hearing on the budget will be on Thursday, April 2 at 6:30 p.m. There will be a public hearing on the budget on April 10 at 6:30 p.m.
