Mineola Community Center Open as Cooling Center

Center open through Friday night to help residents beat heat.

With Mineola currently experiencing a heatwave along with the rest of Long Island and the Tri-State area, is opening up the as a cooling center for any residents who requires it.

The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. through Friday night.

“Anybody out there that needs to get relief from the heat (if) they don’t have air conditioning on their own, please come down to the community center and sit in the community center, grab a good book, read in the relative coolness,” the mayor said Wednesday night at during the regular meeting of the .

“It’s the first one but it’s certainly not going to be the last one,” Strauss said, also asking that everyone try to remain hydrated during the heatwave and for residents to check on neighbors who might be senior citizens.
