Mineola Mayor’s Message: Update on Bruce Terrace Project

The following are the opening remarks of Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss made during the public meeting of the on Feb. 15, 2012:

Last Friday, Mr. (Ben) Truncale from the village attorney’s office and Mr. Scalero and I went to the and met with and his staff. Supervisor Kaiman and I are on . I reiterated what I’ve said here since I got in this chair: we’re going to get that project done and we’re going to get some relief to that area, flood mitigation. The survey, the land survey that we authorized several weeks ago is about 95 percent complete. Once it’s complete then we’re going to toss that over to the town.

At that meeting, Supervisor Kaiman said that they would at the next meeting look to contract with an engineering company, something that we have done and the county has done, yet they have not done. He said they were going to , which I believe is tonight or last night. Hopefully they can get that done and get their third of this project rolling. But rest assured we are moving forward with this as quickly as we possibly can.

Some of you might have noticed that the flag, the large American flag in the is not up yet. We’re possibly going to paint the community center on the inside of that and that’s why it’s not up. Once it’s painted then we’re going to get that flag back up as where it should be.
