Mineola Village Board Approves Downtown Street Fair

Fair would be held on September 25.

The annual Mineola Street Fair will no longer be held in , but instead be of the village closer to shops and other local businesses.

The by the at the April 6 meeting of the and was by Chamber President Ray Sikorski and owner Steve Ford at a prior chamber meeting.

The chamber had proposed moving the street fair from its current site of Memorial Park, and expanding and moving it to Mineola Boulevard.

“They are getting to the point where they need to begin planning if they’re going to pull this off in September,” Village Clerk Joe Scalero said of the chamber committee charged with planning the event before the board approved the measure by unanimous vote last Wednesday at the .

The fair would be held on Sunday, Sept. 25, with a rain date of October 2, which is right after the Jewish holy days and would not interfere with the Williston Park street fair.

The fair would be located in two main areas in the downtown area: Main street from First Street to Front Street, Second Street from Mineola Boulevard to the new parking lot midway between Main Street and Willis Avenue and a two block area of Mineola Boulevard from Harrison Avenue to the North side of Second Street across from the bridge over the railroad tracks.

Traffic coming north over the railroad bridge would be able to make a left turn and go left onto Second Street towards Winthrop. South bound traffic on Mineola Boulevard would have to make a turn on Harrison Avenue to avoid the area.

“I think its a great boost for that area and the chamber of commerce,” said.
