Mineola Village Board Notebook: April 10

Other news from the April 10 village board meeting.

The Mineola Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Wednesday, April 10. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Vehicle Purchases

  • The village will purchase one new 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe, four-wheel drive vehicle from the New York State Office of General Services contract for $28,333 from the vendor Hoselton Chevrolet. The vehicle will be used as a new chief’s vehicle for the Mineola Fire Department and funds are available in the current fiscal budget. The outgoing chief’s car will be recycled back into the village’s system.
  • The village will also be purchasing four 2013 Ford Taurus AWD vehicles at $23,646.20 each for a total of $94,584.80 and one Ford Fusion SE Hybrid vehicle at $28,445.19 for a grand total of $123,029.99 from vendor Van Bortel Ford off a New York State contract. Funding would come from the unreserved fund balance. Superintendent of public works Tom Rini stated that the vehicles are replacements for some of the older vehicles in the village’s fleet for parking enforcement and building department personnel. The all-wheel drive vehicles will also be able to operate in the snow. “We have two building inspectors and one vehicle,” Rini said. “Some of our parking enforcement vehicles are Jeeps that go back to 1999 and 1998, repair costs for all these vehicles has gone up and mileage and everything so it’s time to take a look at this.”
  • Another purchase was also approved, that of a new 2013 Hustler Super Z 72-inch zero-turn ride-on mower from the Suffolk County Department of Public Works contract from All Island Equipment at a cost of $11,900. Funding is also budgeted in the current fiscal year. Rini said that one of the current mowers finally broke down after about 20 years worth of use.
Other Board News
  • The board approved a proposal of Sidney B. Browne & Son, LLP for architectural drawings for the Irish American Center at the low bid of $3,500 and will be funded by community development funds in connection with the construction of a handicap bathroom.
