The Mineola  held a meeting on Wednesday, April 11. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Jackson Avenue School Bus Loop

  • addressed the news surrounding the ongoing plans regarding a by the Mineola School District at the , including the possibilities of a new entrance for busses and in front of the school.
  • “I have not had any proposals come my way,” the mayor said, “so right now we’re not involved in that process at all – hopefully they will include us at some point when they get their ideas on what they’re planning to do – but right now I have nothing from anybody other than casual conversations like the rest of us have had.”

Ice Cream Truck Vendor

  • MJF Ice Cream, Inc. requested the renewal of a permit to operate an ice cream truck in the village from March 31 to October 31 from 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier).
  • The company has operated in the village for the past 3 years with no incidents and has renewed their permit annually.
  • The owner is reportedly in the process of buying a new truck according to village clerk Joseph Scalero, who requested that the board make the renewal conditional upon the registration of the new truck, paperwork and county health department inspection.
  • “This board determines the number of vendors that you want operating at any one time,” Scalero said. “This is almost an exclusive right for this operator. You put the vehicle registration including the operating name on the truck, it does get filed with the police precinct, they are notified that this is the only one duly licensed to operate in our village so they can chase out others.”

Other Board News

  • The Long Island Portuguese Lions Club requested the use of on Sunday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for their annual barbecue.
  • The board approved a payout for unused accumulated sick and vacation time to an employee who has left the employment of the village.
