The Mineola  held a meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Snow Removal

  • asked that whenever a forecast of two or more inches of snow is forecast for residents to please move their cars off the street until roads are cleared.
  • He cautioned that if the village does find cars on the street that hamper snow removal efforts, “we’re going to look to issue some summonses.”

Lincoln Avenue Apartment Parking Lot

  • Representatives from the owner’s association of the apartment building at 100 Lincoln Ave. came before the board to ask for a special parking situation so that their lot can be resealed and restriped.
  • According to Donald Heston, president of 100 Lincoln Ave. Owners, Inc., in 2005 the surface of the lot was in need of repair and took 2 days to repave.
  • The village was asked to wave parking restrictions on the north side of Lincoln Avenue to allow residents to park for the duration of the construction, which included placing an agent of the building in charge of distributing temporary passes which had to be placed in the windshield of each car parked on the north side.
  • “Once again the the parking lot needs to be resealed and relined,” Heston said, for the restrictions to be waved again when the lot is redone.
  • The group is proposing to repave the lot in either April or May of 2012.
  • The capacity of the lot is approximately 90 cars.
  • Mayor Strauss said that he would reach out to Superintendent of Public Works Tom Rini “and we’ll reach back to you.”

Building Department

  • An extension of a 90-day building permit for 75 Windsor Ave. was approved.
  • An extension of a work permit for 205 Mineola Boulevard for repair work to the side of the building was also granted.
  • The project at 210 Old Country Rd. – known as the Raines building – is “in the final stages of completion” according to village building superintendent Dan Whalen. A walkthrough took place on December 9 and Whalen estimated that the final inspection would take place after the new year and a certificate of occupancy would be issued.
  • The financial reports for the village for the month of November is as follows: 13 residential permits issued for $4,540; 13 commercial permits for $6,745; one applications for the board of trustees for $500; one subdivision application for $2,500; 14 plumbing permits for $1,670; 17 electrical permits for $1,450; 19 title searches for $2,550; 28 certificates of occupancy for $700; four copies of the village code for $18.25; one licenses for new businesses for  $255; for a subtotal of $20,928.25. There were court dispositions in the amount of $3,600 for a grand total of $24,528.25.

  • The Evening Star Quilters will hold a workshop session on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The guild will also hold member-to-member teaching sessions on the following Saturdays in 2012 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: January 21, February 18, March 17.
  • The Mineola Junior Fire Department will hold its 16th annual pasta dinner in the community center on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from noon to 5 p.m. Set up will be on Saturday, March 10 at 8 a.m.
  • A benefit payout from the village fire service award fund was approved for Mineola Fire Department Volunteer Firefighter Michael J. DeSorbo, pursuant to the length of service award program.
  • The village awarded $32,450 in workman’s compensation which includes $27,765 to the plaintiff Victor Lizboa and $4,685 to attorney in a Nov. 15, 2011 decision.
  • The board will hold a special use hearing on Jan. 11, 2012 on an application for a fitness facility at 7 Roselle St.
  • The responded to 37 calls during the month of October, bringing the total number of calls responded to up to 437 since April 1.
  • Deputy Mayor Paul Pereira thanked Nancy Reagan and Eileen Burke of Mineola High School for setting up a “flash service project” on November 21 where students cleaned Memorial Park with other teachers and helped to clean leaves from the park.
  • Trustee George Durham reported that Boy Scout Troop 45 sold 3,500 Christmas wreathes. “I want to thank the residents of Mineola,” he said. “That’s a great fundraiser for them.”
