Mineola Village Board Notebook: July 13

The Mineola  held a meeting on Wednesday, July 13. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

National Grid Lease

• National Grid has signed a temporary lease agreement to store telephone poles at the village property located at the end of east Second Street near Voice Road for a period of nine months ending on April 20, 2012.
• The negotiated rate is $1,008 per month for a total of $9,072.
• National Grid will reportedly have between 75 electric poles between 85 and 100 feet in length at the site and draw down against the total.
• The contract will not impede where the village piles snow during the winter months.

Community Events

• The Homecoming parade will be held on Saturday, September 24 at 12 p.m. (assembly at 11:30 a.m.) along the following route: east along Jericho Turnpike to Roslyn Road, south along Roslyn Road to Westbury Avenue, east along Westbury Avenue to Union Avenue, south along Union Avenue to .
• The WARM Association of Girl Scouts will hold their annual Bronze, Silver and Gold Dinner on Friday, October 14 in the auditorium from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Community Center

• The Mineola AARP Chapter 4202 was granted approval to use the community center for their 2011-12 general membership meetings and a general purpose room for their board of directors meetings on the following dates from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.: September 21, October 26, November 16, January 25, February 22, March 28, April 25, May 23, June 27 and a general purpose room from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on January 18.
• The Mineola AARP Chapter 4202 was granted use of a general purpose room in the community center for their arts & crafts committee on the following Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.: September 6 & 20, October 4 & 18, November 1 & 15, December 6 & 20, January 3 & 17, February 7 & 21, March 6 & 20, April 3 & 17, May 1 & 15, June 5 & 19.

Other Board News

• Boy Scout Troop 45 will use a section of the for lifesaving merit badge programs on five consecutive Monday nights: July 25, August 1, August 8, August 15 and August 22.
• The following 2010-11 year-end intra-fund budget transfers were approved in the amounts listed: library fund: $12,650.33, water fund: $78,140.45, pool fund: $24,257.70. Trustee Lawrence Werther was the only vote against the measure.
• The board approved tax certiorari settlements for the 2011-12 fiscal year in the amount of $695,783. The village budgeted $700,000 for certiorari settlements in the budget.
