The Mineola Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Wednesday, June 12. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Portugal Day Event

Clerk Certification

  • Mineola Village Clerk Joseph Scalero will attended the Cornell Municipal Clerks Institute at Cornell University in Ithaca from July 14-18.
  • This is the third and final year he will be attending the program.
  • The event was separate from the NYCOM training school and Scalero was selected for the 3 year certification workshop program.
  • Only two other clerks on Long Island have the certification.
  • Scalero stated that for the first time the program set up an online study program that he had to continue to be eligible for the third year.
  • For the last two years Scalero was also selected for several scholarships to cover the cost of the program.

Fourth of July Fireworks

  • The annual village fireworks show will take place on July 5 in Memorial Park.
  • Scalero stated that he has contracted with the same company as in recent years for the same length of show for the same price.

Summer Recreation Program

  • Registration for the Mineola Youth and Family summer recreation program, which is separate from the village recreation program, is open.
  • Residents can contact the organization directly at their Jericho Turnpike offices.
  • The village’s summer recreation program is also still accepting registrants for the summer.

The next meeting of the Mineola Village Board will be on Wednesday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the village hall.
