The Mineola  held a meeting on Wednesday, May 23. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Use Requests

  • A request for the Veterans of Foreign Wars – Pvt. Adolph Block Post No. 1305 for the use of Wilson Park for an American flag disposal ceremony on June 14 at 6:30 p.m. was approved.
  • The event is held annual by the collective veterans’ groups for the ceremonial burning.
  • The fire department has been alerted and will provide a detail for safety.

Budget Transfers

The board approved a request from the for budget transfers in the amount of $3,408.87 from the following lines:

  • $82.60 from equipment, $375 from contractual personal services, $332.39 from fuel – gasoline, $104.88 from stationary & printing, $146.30 from badges & plaques, $126.29 from computers, $468.93 from turnout gear, $109.73 from Scott masks, $575.79 from uniforms, $175 from OSHA medicals, $115.72 from fire prevention, $345 from celebrations, $451.24 from communications
  • $454.95 to hose and equipment, $82.84 to miscellaneous supplies, $314.33 to repairs – buildings, $2,55675 to repairs – equipment.

April Village Court Report

During the month of April, the village justice court heard and collected the following fines for the number of cases listed:

  • 70 moving violations for $8,195
  • one village ordinances exclusive to motor vehicles for $150
  • eight housing violations for $3,000
  • 1,883 parking violations for $110,787
  • four suspension appearance fees for $280
  • for a total of $122,412.

Other Board News

  • A list of supplemental seasonal employee hirings was approved. The village typically provides a list of alternate seasonal employees because “some of the kids get jobs elsewhere,” or other various reasons according to village clerk Joseph Scalero.
  • Joseph A. Nunziata was approved as a new member of the Mineola Fire Department Company No. 2.
  • An increase in Emergency Tenant Protection Act (ETPA) administrative fees was approved from $5 to $10 per unit. The 1972 New York State law requires that the village make up and send out a bill to landlords of properties which have been determined to fall under the EPTA. Village treasurer Giacomo Ciccone stated that the reason for the increase related to the amount of time his department has to spend administrating the ETPA.
