The Mineola Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Wednesday, October 2. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

2014 Street Repair

  • The village’s upcoming street repair project would focus on Elm Place between Washington Avenue and Jefferson Avenue between Elm Place and Roosevelt Avenue.

Personnel

  • Mineola Library Director Charles Sleefe requested authorization for two staff members to attend the Public Library Association’s National Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana from March 12-15, 2014.
  • An employee requested to exercise their option to buy back health insurance under the collective bargaining agreement as they are covered under their spouse’s insurance policy.

  • The ROMEO Brass musical group requested use of a community center general purpose room for rehearsals on Monday evenings from october 2013 to September 2014 from 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
  • The WARM Association of Girl Scouts requested use of the community center auditorium for their annual Bronze, Silver and Gold award celebration on Oct. 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Corpus Christi Church was granted permission to use the village’s streets for a devotional procession on Sunday, October 13 from 9:15 p.m. to 10 p.m. using the following route: Garfield East to Willis Avenue, south to Second Street, turn around (U-turn - will not block Second Street), north on Willis Avenue to Garfield West to starting place at the church.
  • Boy Scout Troop 45 requested use of the community center on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to conduct a scouts’ basketball night.

September Financial Report

The financial reports for the village for the month of September 2013 are as follows:

  • 28 residential permits issued for $16,652
  • 17 commercial permits for $36,690
  • one application before the board of trustees for $350
  • 24 plumbing permits for $40,830
  • 21 electrical permits for $6,565
  • 21 title searches for $1,888.25
  • 38 certificates of occupancy for $1,025
  • 8 licenses for new businesses for $1,895
  • for a subtotal of $105,895.25.
  • There were court dispositions in the amount of $2,350 for a grand total of $108,245.25.
  • There were 7 notices of violation issued and 4 summonses.

Other Board News

  • The board authorized payments from the developmental incentive bonus funds for fiscal year 2013-14. The funds, obtained from projects such as the Winston, Churchill and Winthrop Diabetes Research Center, were used for the new Emory Road park at a total of about $68,000.
