The Mineola  held a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Tom Kennedy Award

  • The board paid tribute to former trustee Tom Kennedy during their public hearing on September 14, presenting him an award for his service to the village.
  • “It’s not as easy as it looks and I know it doesn’t look easy,” said, thanking Kennedy for giving of his time in service to Mineola. “Thank you for your time away from your family, thank you for your dedication to the village, thank you for everything you do.”

Employee Payout

  • The board approved a payout of accumulated leave for an employee “who is separating from the village,” clerk Joseph Scalero said.
  • The funds will come from the village sanitation fund.
  • The employee is leaving to pursue a career in law enforcement out of state.
  • “We wish him well, this payout will help him relocate his family down to the state he’s moving to,” Scalero said, thanking him for his 11 years of service.
  • The village will advertise for an open position in the sanitation department to fill the vacancy.
