Mineola Village Board Pauses to Remember Newtown Victims

Moment of silence held for victims of elementary school shooting.

The following are the opening remarks of Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss made at the start of the public meeting of the Mineola Village Board on Dec. 19, 2012:

Words don’t exist to accurately describe what happened in Newtown, CT. Our holiday season will be a joyous one. Yet for the community of Newtown, it will not. Ours will be filled with traditions, family gatherings and laughs. Theirs will be draped in despair and indescribable grief.

Please remain standing for a moment of silent tribute to the Community of Newtown, CT and also keep in your thoughts and prayers our military personnel who are unable to spend the coming holidays with their families as they are stationed across the world protecting our interests.
