New Line Party Submits Nominating Petition Record

Mineola political party hands in over 1,000 signatures for 2013 election.

The New line Party submitted their nominating petitions to the off ice of the Mineola Village Clerk on Feb. 6, securing their slate candidates a place on the March 19 ballot for the 2013 village elections.

Incumbent Scott Strauss who is seeking election to his second term as mayor joined party running mates George Durham and Dennis Walsh to file the petitions.

Durham is running for his second term as trustee on the village board along with newcomer Walsh who, although is running for the first time for trustee, is a staple at many village board meetings in the audience.

Strauss held up nominating petitions with over 1,000 signatures saying, “I’ve never heard of any candidate receiving such overwhelming support. I checked with our more senior residents who have a long history in village elections and to their recollection the highest number in the past were just over 600 signatures. We have over 1,000. My running mates, George and Dennis, and I want to thank all those friends and neighbors who took the time to sign our petitions and give their support. We look forward to a healthy campaign and serving the residents of our great village.”

There are three seats currently up for election on the 2013 ballot. Strauss is running unopposed. The top two candidates out of Durham, Walsh and current board member Lawrence Werther who receive the most votes would be elected to the remaining chairs.
