New Mineola Village Website Getting Closer to Completion

Design work for new website taking place for 2012 launch.

The Village of Mineola is getting ready to launch the new version of its municipal website.

“The website is progressing,” Village Clerk Joe Scalero said at the December 7 meeting of the , indicating that all the preliminary design work for the new site has been completed.

The current web site, which dates back to 2003 and was the brain child of , has not had a significant update, instead relying on simple changes such as changes to the calendar and the list of those serving on the village board and in various departments.

Scalero said that he would be meeting with the firm contracted to design the new site and all village department heads “to incorporate more functionality into the website and to get each department’s insight” during the week of December 12.

“It should be just a few weeks after that that we should be ready to present the final product,” he said.

The Village of Mineola has already contracted with Virtual Town Hall Holding to move to an online searchable format, but the main webpage and site are also to allow residents and visitors to find information quicker.

Among the site’s new functions would be the ability for visitors would be able to download the appropriate forms and come to village hall in one visit. The website also has the potential to accept credit card payments, allow for calendar updates without having to go to an outside vendor to update the information and offer e-mail subscription services.

Other features on the revamped site would be the ability to notify residents who sign up for e-mail alerts about changes to garbage and recycling pickup or snow emergencies as well as a module for online news from the village.

The cost for the package would be $4,995 for the first year, which includes an initial setup fee and $3,995 for each successive year.

The company has worked with General Code, the firm responsible for converting the village code book to a digital online format.

While no target date for the launch of the new website was given, the entire process of producing the website was estimated to take about 12 weeks, depending on how quickly the village can make decisions on design aspects and features it would like to incorporate into the website.
