North Hempstead Declares State of Emergency in Face of Irene

Residents advised to stay indoors until storm passes.

North Hempstead has formally declared a state of emergency in the face of Hurricane Irene. North Hempstead Town declared the emergency after similar declarations were issued from the offices of New York and Nassau County. The category 1 storm is expected to hit Long Island Sunday.

Residents are advised to remain indoors whenever possible until the storm has passed. All resident inquiries should be directed to the Town’s 311 call center.
