Here are the highlights of Tuesday night’s Town of North Hempstead meeting:

Salem Elementary School

  • A circular traffic pattern is being created around the Salem Elementary School in Port Washington.
  • To do this, a “do not enter” restriction was created on Guilford Road where it intersects with Lynn Road.
  • There was also a one-way restriction on Guilford Road west of Newbury Road.
  • There will also be a “right turn only” on Newbury Road where it intersects Guilford Road and a “no left turn” on Newbury Road where it intersects Guilford Road.
  • Each of these restrictions will be from 2:30 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. on school days.
  • This was done to alleviate traffic around the school.
Public Hearings
  • A public hearing about a handicapped parking space at 50 Dennis Street in Garden City Park will be on May 14.
  • A public hearing regarding left turn restrictions on West Mill Drive in Great Neck will be on May 14.
Summer Camps
  • Requests for proposals can be submitted for summer camp programs to be held at Manorhaven Park through May 31.
  • The board debated whether there should be a two-year and five-year option and the five-year option was voted on.
  • Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio and Councilman Angelo Ferrara voted against the five-year plan.
A “no stopping here to corner” parking restriction has been placed in New Hyde Park on the north and south sides of Evergreen Avenue west of Leonard Boulevard.

AKRF Inc. in Bohemia has a professional services agreement to conduct two traffic students in Manhasset and Greenvale.

A clarification was made about the fees that not-for-profits pay to use Town parks and buildings. For small room rentals with up to 30 people, not-for- profits pay $20 an hour and for large rooms with more than 30 people, it’s $40 an hour.

The New Hyde Park Park District got an insurance reimbursement of $4,693 for fence repair at Clinton G. Martin Park. The district also received about $13,000 related to Hurricane Sandy recovery cost.
