Town Unemployment Rate Rises

While fewer Long Islanders found themselves unemployed in September compared to a year ago, . The unemployment rate for the town in September was 5.9 percent, up from 5.7 percent a month ago. It was 6.4 percent in September 2010. There were 6,600 North Hempstead residents listed as unemployed last month, compared to 6,400 in August, and 7,200 a year ago.

A total of 150 volunteers from Canon U.S.A. in Lake Success showed  some love on Saturday. That's when volunteers from the company teamed up with the Town of North Hempstead for Canon's annual Clean Earth Crew event to . It was the first time North Hempstead partnered with Canon to improve the area.
