North Hempstead Town Notebook: Irene, GOP Ticket Campaign Kick-off and a Festival

 reported that its 311 Call Center responded to more than 8,000 storm-related calls surrounding Irene. Post-Irene, Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman announced on Tuesday that he had authorized a 100-person Highway Department tree-trimming crew to work side-by-side with Long Island Power Authority personnel to speed up power restoration to residents in the Town and its villages. 

North Hempstead GOP Campaign Kick-off

The North Hempstead GOP announced it will kick off its campaign on Wednseday, Sept. 7, at the , 730 Willis Avenue in Williston Park. It’s a family-friendly event featuring a barbecue that starts at 6:30 p.m.

Great Neck Street Fair to Honor Sept. 11 Victims

The Village of Great Neck reported that it, along with the Great Neck Plaza Business Improvement District, will dedicate the 27th Annual Great Neck Plaza AutoFest and Street Festival to honor the victims of the tenth anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11.

This year’s AutoFest will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 from 12-4:30 p.m. (rain date Sept. 25) at the Great Neck Plaza on Middle Neck Road in Great Neck.

Profits from car registrations, donations, rides and attractions at the event will be donated to two Long Island-based charities, Tuesday’s Children and the September 11th Families Association.

Highlights of the event include the , one of the vintage race cars featured at this year’s . The Meade Brothers, D.A.M.G.D. Radio and Paula Atherton will provide live entertainment.
