Orleans, National Night Out and North Hempstead Kidstock

Happenings around the Town of North Hempstead.

Orleans, the band who brought us “Dance With Me,” “You’re Still The One” and more, will take center stage at Manorhaven Beach Park of the Town’s 2012 Summer Concert Series at 7:30 pm on Friday.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held at Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington.

UPDATE July 26: the Orleans concert has been cancelled due to the passing of the lead singer Larry Hoppen.

National Night Out 2012

North Hempstead residents are invited to celebrate “National Night Out 2012”, the annual crime and drug prevention rally, on August 7 at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park at Broadway and Railroad Street in Westbury. The parade assembles at 5 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 992 Prospect Avenue in Westbury and the festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. in the park.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, with support from a host of local businesses and institutions including North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center, and the New Cassel/Westbury Community-wide Partnership, “National Night Out” promotes neighborhood anti-crime efforts, crime and drug-prevention awareness, and police-community partnerships.

The event, New Cassel’s 29th, will feature music, dancing, refreshments, arts and crafts, raffles, health screenings, giveaways, and more.

KidStock Music Festival is Aug. 26

Get ready for KidStock, on Aug. 26 at  in Port Washington. The second annual outdoor music festival will feature live musical entertainment for both kids and parents, showcasing an array of  bands and national celebrities.

Special guest MC Roscoe “Gordon of Sesame Street” Orman will serve as host, spinning a blend of folk, rock, kid pop, and kid rock.

Performers will include Bari Koral Family Rock Band, whose music inspires residents of all ages to get up and dance.

Local favorite Strummin’ and Drummin’, featuring brothers Chris and Matt Marshak, will follow with their funky, bluesy, soulful, and silly kids’ songs to get the audience singing along.

Next, critically-acclaimed Dan Zanes & Elizabeth Mitchell will take to the stage, prompting the entire family to join in.

Bringing down the curtains to the musical showcase, Grammy Award nominated Brady Rymer & the Little Band That Could, will present their high-energy act, featuring songs celebrating children of all abilities.
