Approximately 30 demonstrators consisting of students, transportation experts and Nassau County residents held a rally at the Mineola LIRR intermodal facility Thursday morning to protest the lack of information over the county’s agreement with Violia Transportation, a private contractor set to take over day-to-day operations of Long Island Bus beginning in 2012.

Demonstrators produced numerous signed petitions which they took to the nearby county legislature in advance of Friday’s hearing on the 2012 county budget.
