Village Finishes Work on Two Flood Project Streets

Mineola still waiting for Nassau County to complete final third of flood mitigation project.

On June 18 both Liberty Avenue and Bruce Terrace in Mineola received a final paving, completing its third of the work on both streets for the flood mitigation project.

The village is still waiting on the county’s contractor, who superintendent of public works Tom Rini stated would possibly be moving equipment into the area on the last week of the month or after July 4.

“Realistically they’re probably going to end up closing that section of Sheridan Boulevard from Raff Avenue to Westbury Avenue and along the side streets because it is a rather deep dig to put the piping in in that area,” he said during the June 19 meeting of the village board at the village hall.

Rini added that a problem which had occurred on Dow Avenue with gas line as part of the village’s part of the project was resolved and will have construction within three to four weeks. National Grid had installed a gain main where the drainage pipe was supposed to have been located. The company has agreed to make repairs to accommodate the drainage pipes in the area at no cost to the village.

Rini stated that as of the meeting date there had been no flooding, though the village was investigating one pipe.
