Weekly Question for North Hempstead Supervisor Candidate Dina DeGiorgio
Town supervisor candidate asked why she is running as a Republican.

With Town of North Hempstead elections on the horizon, each week Patch will speak with the candidates in an effort to give readers some insight into those running.
Patch posed the followed question to town supervisor candidates Judi Bosworth and Dina DeGiorgio. Bosworth's answers wereposted last week.
Here's how DeGiorgio responded:
Patch Asked DeGiorgio: Why have you chosen to run as a Republican? Would you say you are more loyal to your political party or your community? How so?
DeGiorgio's response: I am a political outsider, with no debts to pay to any party machine. I believe that government has an obligation to act in the best interests of the people it serves- regardless of party affiliation. I consider myself an independent voter. I vote for the person, not the party. I embrace the core values of small government, individual freedom, personal responsibility and fiscal conservatism.
During my tenure as Councilwoman, I introduced a resolution to televise Board Meetings (it was rejected in a Board vote that went along party lines). I advocated restoring Alvan Petrus Park to a community that was being sacrificed in favor of a big developer and substantial campaign contributions. Recently, I opposed the development of the West Shore Road property and I exposed a secret plan by the LIRR and the Town to sell land belonging to the Port Washington Parking District for less than market value. I opposed the purchase of the Roslyn Country Club property by the Town because the plan would burden all of the taxpayers in the Town, and benefit just a few. I created a website, portal2port, to make it easier for my constituents to indentify issues on the Town agenda that directly affect them. I routinely vote against excessive salary increases to political insiders, retention of outside law firms in cases that the Town Attorney’s office should handle and the hiring of consultants who duplicate the work of highly paid Town employees.
I have demonstrated, through my actions, that I am committed to serving the community that I have been elected to serve.
