Work Continuing on Bruce Terrace Flood Project

Construction affected ball field No. 3 which will be landscaped for use in baseball season.

Mineola village crews are continuing work on the Bruce Terrace flood mitigation project, with over 1,000 ft. of drainage line as part of the relief for Second Street and Liberty Avenue now completed and basins installed as part of the second phase of the project according to village superintendent of public works Tom Rini.

“I’m hoping with possibly before the end of this week, early next week the trench area, we’ll do as we had done on Bruce Terrace, clean up the area, we’ll binder that in anticipation of at the end of the total project and all drainage in installed that we’ll go back and make any concrete repairs, platform repairs and build a new, final pave,” Rini said during a meeting of the village board on April 3 at the village hall. “Once we get the binder courts to grade, it’ll clean up that whole area; it’s a little dusty down there right now but people have been pretty cooperative.”

The ongoing construction work did affect ballfield No. 3 so Rini said that the village would bring in a contract landscaper to work on the field in preparation of the upcoming season.

“We do need it now,” he said of the ball field, “but we knew this was going to be an issue, so I’m hoping that once he completes his repairs – give it a couple of weeks for things to get in – I’ll be able to get in once we make the switchover from soccer to baseball.”
