Chaminade and Mineola Schools to Remain Closed for Rest of Week

Schools still without power and will stay closed through November 2 in aftermath of Sandy.

Students from both Chaminade High School and Mineola public schools will have a grand total of 9 straight days off (including the weekends) after administrators announced that the buildings will remain closed through week’s end due to lack of power from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

While Chaminade students are normally given the day off for All Saints Day, which falls on November 1, the decision was made to also stay closed on Friday, November 2.

Mineola students will have missed a full week of school due to the hurricane’s effects and power outages.

Notices of the closure were posted on both the Chaminade and Mineola School District websites on Wednesday afternoon, a feat considering that there was no power in the area and to neither Chaminade nor the other school buildings.

There is no word yet on how the classes will be made up.
