Chaminade Holds Can Drive for Needy Parish

'One man, one can' philosophy leads to tables full of food.

students opened their hearts and their pantries Tuesday as the school held a canned food drive to help a needy parish in Jamaica, Queens.  The student body was able to cover two large cafeteria tables as well as several large boxes which were stacked on the floor under the tables next to the auditorium with donated canned goods and food stuffs.

The school held a canned food drive for the same parish last year, and was called upon by the parish for assistance again. "We were happy to oblige," Bro. Peter Heiskell, S.M., said of the charitable act that the students and faculty are always willing to participate in and contribute.

The administration kept it simple in promoting the 2009 food drive to the students, using the slogan "one man, one can," and used the same tag line this year as well as Powerpoint presentations and ads broadcast over the school's closed circuit television the previous four school days to encourage contribution to the cause.
