Chaminade to Accept Donations for Sandy Victims Monday

Classes are cancelled for Monday, November 5.

Chaminade High School will not have classes on Monday, November 5 as Long Island still tries to regain power in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The announcement came on the Chaminade website Sunday afternoon.

The website also said that all activities and athletics have been cancelled until further notice and to check the website for future updates.

The school has not been open since October 29. The athletic center was open on Sunday to residents as a power center.

In a letter posted to the website, Chaminade President Bro. Thomas Cleary, S.M. said that the school’s library would instead be open Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to receive donations of clothing, basic toiletries, pet food, school supplies or canned food items.

The school would then be open on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to distribute the items.

If residents are in need or know anyone in need of those items, to please contact Bro. Tom at tcleary@chaminade-hs.org or call 516-742-5555, ext. 510.

“At this time, I do not know how many homes we will be dealing with and whether or not we will be able to accommodate all the requests we may receive. But, if we can, we will help out as much as possible,” Bro. Cleary wrote. “We take inspiration from Blessed Teresa’s words “We cannot do great things for God, but only small things with great love.”
