Children's Sleep Disorder Lecture
Parents – does your child suffer from excessive daytime drowsiness or have trouble staying asleep? Although minor sleep problems are common in childhood, studies have shown that sleep disorders can and do occur in children and adolescents, leading to difficulties such as deficits in school performance and adverse health consequences. Learning to recognize the signs of a possible sleep disorder and when to seek an evaluation can make a difference in a child’s health and well-being.
Parents and caregivers can learn what they need to know at Winthrop-University Hospital’s free Parenting Today lecture, “Sleep Disorders in Children: More Common Than You Think,” on Thursday, March 8, 2012. The program begins with registration at 6:45 PM, followed by the lecture at 7:00 and will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, located at 101 Mineola Boulevard, at the corner of Second Street in Mineola.
Christina Valsamis, MD, Pediatric Pulmonologist at Winthrop and board certified sleep physician, will discuss normal sleep patterns, the signs and symptoms of a sleep disorder, the evaluation process, and the latest advances in treatment. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
