Know Your Rights as a Health Care Consumer

You have rights as a health care consumer and there are laws to protect you.

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Program presents Know Your Rights as a Health Care Consumer on Thursday, April 19 at 7 pm at Adelphi University, Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City.

Dorothea Caldwell-Brown, assistant attorney general in the Health Care Bureau of the Office of the NYS Attorney General, will present useful information on health care rights and how the Health Care Bureau can help New Yorkers under New York State Law.

Ms. Caldwell-Brown combines her experience in legal matters and health in her work as an assistant attorney general. Prior to attending law school, she was a nurse practitioner and a community health nurse. She has worked as a corporate attorney specializing in health law.

As an attorney in the Health Care Bureau, Ms. Caldwell-Brown has investigated and settled cases involving commercial health plans for utilization review law violations, unfair claims settlements (including usual, customary and reasonable reimbursements), inaccurate provider directories and improper business practices. She has investigated and settled cases involving medical discount card companies for fraudulent operations and academic medical centers for improper consenting processes for genetic testing.
