Hampton Street School Holds Annual International Night

Musical acts include bagpipe player, Irish Step Dancers and Dreams of Portugal dance group.

The Hampton Street School held its annual International Night and Art Show this past Friday night.

At International Night, each family prepared a dish reflecting their heritage and shared that dish with the community in a pot-luck dinner. There was a wide variety of foods from Portugal, Haiti, Germany, India, China and numerous other countries. “We are lucky that we have a wonderfully diverse community and students can learn about so many different countries!” Hampton Principal Devra Small said in a statement.

Several multicultural entertainers were also on hand, including bagpipe player Tom Behan, the Golden Showstoppers baton twirlers led by Debbie Doherty, Irish Step Dancers with Maureen Callaghan, Break Dancers (former students Jonathan, Roberto and Mia), Indian dancer Neha Narvekar and the Dreams of Portugal dance group led by Tony DaSilva.

The event was produced by the school’s site-based team, a group that brings parents, teachers and community together to provide special learning experiences and activities for children.

Lysette DeSousa, a parent in the school, chaired the event, organizing the food and entertainment. The entire Site Based Team assisted with decorating and serving.
