Harbor Day Care to Lease Space in Mineola School

Herricks-based day care to rent two rooms in Willis Avenue School.

The will be getting a new tenant this school year as recently signed a lease for space in the building.

The Herricks-based child care organization currently runs its operations out of the , but will be leasing the Willis Avenue multipurpose room and cafeteria between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays during the 2011-12 school year. The hours agreed to in the lease, which was approved at the ’s October 6 meeting, allows district children to be dismissed from the building before children for the Harbor Day Care program arrive.

The amount agreed to in the lease between Harbor Day Care and the district is $1,600 per month. Harbor Day Care offers services for children from infant up to the sixth grade.

Superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler estimated that there would be approximately 30-40 Harbor students using the spaces. The district does employ custodial staff on its night shift who would clean up the spaces after the students from Harbor Day Care leave.

While the lease only covers the 2011-12 school year, Dr. Nagler said that Harbor Day Care “expressed interest” in using the building next year as well, but doubted the organization would be the to rent the Willis Avenue School once the district .

“I would anticipate that they wouldn’t be interested in responding to the RFP (request for proposal),” the superintendent said referring to the solicitations the district is planning to distribute to potential tenants.
