Jackson Avenue Students Learn Ropes of Fire Safety

Elementary students learn basics of fire safety at Mineola Fire Department.

In honor of October as Fire Safety Month, students at the Jackson Avenue School in the Mineola Union Free School District learned the basics of fire safety at the Mineola Fire Department.

Firefighters gave students a tour of the firehouse, displayed the trucks and equipment, and taught them how to safety exit a burning building and how and when to call 911.

Students were also shown special equipment, such as the Jaws of Life and the hook and ladder truck, and given plastic firefighter hats and fire safety coloring books to take home.
