third grader Ana Victoria Serna can officially add “published poet” to her list of accomplishments.
After entering her poem “An Ode to Summer” into a contest, she was notified in November of her semifinalist status and was recently sent a copy of the book Famous Poets of the Heartland, which included a copy of her published poem.
Ana, who likes to write poems, was urged by her second-grade teacher to enter the contest.
“I’m still pretty excited about it,” she said, noting her favorite poet is Robert Frost. “It feels nice to have something published.”
