Kornreich Early Learning Center Celebrates Latest Graduates

Early childhood center helps non-English speaking students prepare for pre-K.

The Kornreich Early Learning Center at the recently held its “graduation” ceremony for its 32 nursery-school age students.

The center is a pre-school program which promotes social/emotional development and physical skills through the daily classroom activities and part of the Family Service League.  The program also fosters development of cognitive skills with an emphasis on English literacy.

Many of the 3 year old students were non-English speaking at the beginning of the school year and are now at grade-level and prepared to enter pre-K in the fall.

The curriculum includes learning the alphabet and numbers; how to read and write their names; identifying colors and shapes; learning about the weather; using computers and conducting basic science projects.

Parents are encouraged to participate in classes and to chaperone the field trips. This year trips were taken to Radio City Music Hall for the Christmas Spectacular and to the in Garden City, among others.

The center is funded by Old Westbury residents John and Janet Kornreich and open to 3 year olds residing in the .
