Mineola Board of Ed Notebook: Dec. 16

Other news from the Dec. 16 board of education meeting.

The Mineola Board of Education held a workshop session on Thursday, Dec. 16. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

  • All five members of the Mineola Board of Education meeting were sporting iPads. According to Board President Terence Hale, the iPads are part of the board's "Green Initiative" and will enable the board to save money by not having to use as much paper since documents can now to be sent to board members electronically.
  • The board still hasn't decided the . In addition to four classrooms, the board may opt to construct a library/media center.
  • Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Nagler announced an internship agreement with . Nagler said he was excited for the opportunity for students to raise their science research goals. 
  • The board is planning the referendum for work to the  on Feb. 8. The referendum, if passed, would enable the district to leave the high school and middle school the way they are currently configured. If the referendum fails, the fifth grade would move to the middle school and the eighth grade would move to the high school.
  • The board has expiring contracts which must negotiated with its employees' unions. Agreements with the Mineola Teacher's Association and the American Association of School Administrators expire after the 2010-2011 school year.

The next meeting of the Mineola Board of Education is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Willis Avenue School.
