The Mineola Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 17. Here’s a look at some of the things you may have missed.

iPad Program

  • Superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler expects to expand the across the entire sixth grade next year.
  • Dr. Nagler stated that he would meet with a different vendor this week because of “headaches” with the technology, in hopes of investigating using a different device in order to network better.
  • “The iPad really is in a class by itself,” he said, “but it doesn’t play nice with our network so its a give and take between the two. A PC platform would be a lot easier for us but you lose a lot of the functionality so we’re looking at some kind of Android bases PC, so you get the apps.”

Allergy Policy Review

  • As a follow up to a board discussion on an allergy policy at a , Dr. Nagler is “still waiting to speak with the physician” on peanut allergies. The Superintendent said it was his understanding the district is not looking to amend the policy but “regulations to the policy.”

Other Board News

  • The Thomas and Jeanne Elmezzi Private Foundation has donated $5,000 in support of the life skills program at the high school. “They’re thinking about putting up a couple of walls and setting up a little bookstore,” Dr. Nagler said.
