Superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler explained that the change for Workers’ Compensation administrator was made following a bid which resulted in finding a company with “a better rate.”

Contracts:

  • A contract with the Oceanside School District to provide special educational services for a child who is a resident of Mineola for the 2010-11 school year was approved.
  • A consultation agreement was approved with Diane Kopitowsky to provide services for a student with special needs for the 2010-11 school year.
  • An agreement was approved with Pyramid Consultants for professional services for students for the 2011-12 school year.
  • A contract with All Island Kids Therapy was approved to provide professional services for students for the 2011-12 school year.
  • The board approved a contract with Horizon Healthcare to provide professional services for students for the 2011-12 school year.
  • A contract with Bilinguals, Inc. was approved to provide professional services for students for the 2011-12 school year.
  • A contract with Abilities, Inc. was approved to provide professional services for students for the 2011-12 school year.
  • A contract between the Mineola and New Hyde Park - Garden City Park school district was also approved for health and welfare services for resident students (grades 7-12) who attend private schools geographically within a respective district. The Mineola School District is required to provide such services for all students. The contract is $750.65 per pupil for 16 students attending the Notre Dame School for a total of $12,010.40.
  • Syntax will continue to provide public relations services for the district for the 2011-12 school year at a cost of $59,500. It was noted that this is the third year in a row Syntax has kept the same price.

Other Board News:

  • The board approved the calendar for the 2011-12 school year. There are no conflicts between board meeting dates and any other district events or holidays. The April meeting was moved to March because of Holy Thursday.
  • The district’s Chubb Pollution Liability Policy including terrorism coverage was renewed with Bermack, Champion & Lewine for the 2011-12 school year in the amount of $17,500.
  • The board will partake in membership with the following organizations: New York State School Boards Association, Nassau/Suffolk School Boards Association, Nassau Citizens Budget Committee.

The July 21 meeting has been moved to July 27. The next meeting of the Mineola Board of Education will be on  at 7 p.m. at the .
