The Mineola Board of Education held a workshop session on Wednesday, March 16. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Announcements

  • Board President Terence Hale announced that he will be running in the May election. Following the announcement, fellow Trustee John McGrath was one of the first to add his signature to Hale’s petition list to be on the May ballot.
  • The high school’s Senior to Senior day will be held Wednesday, March 23. Senior citizens will be treated to lunch with members of the senior class as well as performances from the string orchestra, the acappella group and a performance from the school’s Spring play, “.”
  • student Luke Escobar announced that the student red cross group is coordinating a fundraiser to help aid victims of the Japanese tsunami. “We are hoping this turns into a district-wide effort,” Escobar said.
  • The board recognized Amanda Hassett, a senior bowler who made the all-county level this year.
  • A field trip for high school Spanish language students to Leon & Madrid, Spain from Feb. 9-21 was approved.
