The four-person quiz show team from Mineola met its match in Sunday, falling to juggernaut JFK–Bellmore by a score of 430-220.

The Mineola squad, comprised of captain Daniel Willis, Gaby Gonzales, Razvan Tohanean, Stephin Jose and alternate Sujith Maracheril led early in the game, taking the first correct answer in the match, but fell behind after JFK-Bellmore answered a series in the “Troubled States” column and in the mathematics category “Powers” to take a 140-125 lead at the end of multiple choice.

The Mustangs took “Alliterative Names” in the lightning round, going 6-4 while their opponents who got “Vive La France!” with questions pertaining to the country of France, went 9-1 to open up a 30 point lead going into the break.

JFK–Bellmore opened their lead up even more in the third round, pushing the deficit to 120 points and practically running the table on the “New York City” question category.

In the “Complete 180” round, JFK–Bellmore completed the victory by adding another 90 points onto their total, sweeping the questions in “Monarchs” and “Baseball.”
