Christine Shields, English as a Second Language teacher at the Jackson Avenue School, has received a grant for $250 from the Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union.
She was chosen for the award based upon a proposal she submitted in September for a project involving digital cameras.
Shields plans to apply the grant funds toward the purchase of six cameras, which she will use in small-group settings to have students complete their vocabulary sheets.
The vocabulary assignments usually require students to draw a picture of what each word represents, but using the cameras will ensure that the word is more properly represented in real life.
