Mineola High School Names 2013-14 Physical Education Students of the Year

Valerie Fischer and Doug Hale named physical education students of the year awards.

Mineola High School seniors Valerie Fischer and Doug Hale have won the Mineola School District Physical Education Department’s 2013-14 Student of the Year Award.

The awards were presented at a dinner on Dec. 16 at the Crest Hollow Country Club before a crowd of more than 500 attendees. Fischer and Hale joined two award recipients from each high school in Nassau County.

Both students are part of the physical education leadership program at Mineola High School. After spending their junior years studying the skills and traits of a good leader and understanding how to motivate and lead a group, they are now leading classes of ninth-grade students in physical education. Fischer and Hale are excellent leaders in the gym and have natural abilities to organize and motivate younger students.
